GRAINGER continued working under the name ED COLI, SONS OF MONKEYS and also THE EMPTY PIANOS. PATRICK & CLIVE also worked under the title “THE CATALECTIC PARAGOGE”.

SIMON TANSLEY

A lad from Gillow Heath who released a 40 track cassette album in 1982 entitled Genuine Mono/Guaranteed Useless. Just an acoustic guitar (badly played), and juvenile-sounding singing (sung badly). Track titles such as Life Is Like A Trail Of Blood, and Dreaming In My Dustbin. So bad it was good – so some people say.

SONS OF MONKEYS

The Sons of MonkeysMore of a collective than a band, fronted by GRAINGER REECE, main man behind the STOKE MUSICIANS COLLECTIVE.

REECE had previously been part of WALTER MITTY. SONS OF MONKEYS recorded two songs – Maxwyn Is An Architect, & Bells – which were released on a double A-side single with DECADES BY NIGHT’S Life Spiral. The band performed at the S.M.C.’s CLAP HANDS concert. THE SONS OF MONKEYS were for a time known as THE WESTERN TRIO.
GRAINGER also worked under the pseudonym ED COLI, and gigged with an outfit called THE EMPTY PIANOS.

POPWALL 72

POPWALL 72 consisted of GRAINGER REECE, guitar, synth and scary vocals, MARK CAPEWELL, bass, and TERRY SUTTON, guitar; 3 young Stoke lads who practiced in the basement at the Burslem Leisure Centre. The name came from a combination of a wall called “the popwall” in the basement and the fact that GRAINGER stated that it all started for him in 1972. Did a bizarre version of Stepping Stone in their live set.

THE MOSTONS

Once upon a time in a lovely town called Trentham mummy Moston and daddy Moston had two ickle boys, they were lovely. These lovely little boys were christened arsewhistle and cherryplops…but after years of ridicule they were re-christened lovely ROBERT and lovely MARK. Lovely ROBERT grew up singing in choirs and painting trains and lovely MARK grew up looking at choirs and singing at trains, then after years of therapy MARK stopped and was accepted in society, ROB never was.
They aged and grew and began to sweat more over the years and began to realise what gifts life had bestowed upon them…none at all. So ROB went through his high school years carrying numerous gay rumours and MARK had to live up to the reputation that ROB had set for him…he went back into therapy after the Hanley town centre cross-dressing incident. But anyway, one day they both decided to start learning musical instruments. ROB learned the guitar case and MARK learned the triangle. They both progressed into terrible musicians and years on formed THE MOSTONS, the story of how they chose their name is a long and involved tale of love and hate (yours to own on DVD or VHS from 19/5/2008).
So now THE MOSTONS are formed, bringing their unique blend of crap and music to venues across the immediate local area because they aren’t good enough to do anything else. The end.

THE KETTLE ONS

The KettleonsIn their own words – chaotic, very fast and very silly Stoke band from late 80’s formed by PETE NORCOTT [ex THE FITZ/ALL THE RAGE], TREV RUSHTON, and SIMON WOOLLISCROFT . Only played one gig supporting THE LEMMINGS, though later made a 22 track CD, which featured extensive use of totally bizarre samples, Dee Dee Ramone style basslines and very funny lyrics sung in a deadpan style by TREV. Still producing wacky stuff to this day.
