DARIO G

DARIO G are a three piece dance act from Crewe. PAUL SPENCER and SCOTT ROSSER, who met at college in Salford, joined up with STEPHEN SPENCER. The ’97 hit single Sunchyme sold over two million copies in Europe alone and the follow up single Carnaval De Paris became a ’98 World Cup theme tune. To add to their success the trio released their debut album Sunmachine and the follow up single of the same name in the summer of ’98. Their second album, titled ‘In Full Colour’, was set to hit the shelves early in 2001 but never appeared.
An urban myth stated that they took their name from Crewe Alexandra manager Dario Gradi – untrue!!
Band member PAUL SPENCER says: “There’s not really much of a story here, all I can say is that the origins of the name of the band had nothing to do with the manager of Crewe, and the three members support(ed) Liverpool, Swansea and Stoke City”. PAUL SPENCER was previously in ABOUT TIME. He went on to manage THE TOMMYS.

CANDY FLIP

Well, half the duo come from the Potteries. UK house music duo CANDY FLIP consisted of RIC PEET (b.RICHARD ANDERSON-PEET, Merseyside) and DIZZY DEE (b. DANIEL MOULD, Stoke). (PEET was sometimes soundman for Leek band GODIVAS). They originally joined the UK house outfit This Ain’t Chicago, who released “Ride The Rhythm” on the Club label. By the time of CANDY FLIP, they were dressed in psychedelic flares, boots and shirts that saw them earmarked as part of the “Madchester” 60s revival. As a duo their first release was the minor club hit “Love Is Life”. However, a cover version of the Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” earned them their first UK chart success, reaching number 3 in March 1990. Originally intended as a b-side to “Can You Feel The Love”, it was perfect fodder for the second summer of love generation. The follow-up, “This Can Be Real”, and its successors, failed to make the Top 50, and the duo split-up in 1992. MOULD now works as a producer with his brother KELVIN MOULD, remixing tracks for Blueboy, Sister Sledge and Bentley Rhythm Ace, while PEET has engineered albums by the Charlatans, Six By Seven and the Wildhearts.
