THE VEINS

The VeinsPenkhull based punk band dating back to ’77. Gigged around the area up until 1979. Influenced as much by the New York scene/Velvets, etc, as by the English punk scene. Speed of The City by The VeinsReleased a single on Bum Records – Speed Of The City b/w Sick in 1978, followed up with Lose Control To Rock ‘n’ Roll b/w Champagne on Redball in ’79. Known for a time as INTRAVEIN. 
Line up :
NICKY McKINNEY – vocals, DAVE JENKINS – gtr, DAVE BROOKES – gtr, JESS THORNHILL – gtr, STEVE THORNHILL – bass, JOHN – keyboards, CHRIS – drums. RICHARD BRYAN played drums at one point. MAFF also played drums. Managed by NIGEL BAMFORD, one time bassist with DISCHARGE. Band disappeared late ’79. CHRIS BAILEY (BEYOND THE WALL, ALL THE MADMEN) was originally approached to be the vocalist, but declined the invitation.
STEVE THORNHILL eventually joined PRODUCT. DAVE JENKINS is rumoured to have also.

DEDKATZ

The DEDKATZ were a 5-piece punk band from Trent Vale, formed early 1978 as THE GRAVES, dk6splitting in January 1979 after only a handful of gigs. Line up was MICK RICHARDSON – vocals, STEVE COLCLOUGH aka COUG – rhythm guitar, STEVE EYRE – lead guitar, MARK DIMMELOW aka DIM – bass, GARY CHELL – drums. dk5The band recorded a two song demo at Penkhull’s Bumble Studio in late ’78. The band were a typical third-rate punk mess, with a set of about a dozen self-penned numbers, filled out with covers of The Sex Pistols songs Did You No Wrong, and New York – the latter done in a reggae stylee!dk2
MICK, COUG, & DIM then reformed in the summer of ’79 with session drummer JOHN ‘CROW’ WRIGHT to record a self-financed single for Market Drayton based label REDBALL RECORDS – Day Of The Dogs, backed with Living Is A Nightmare – MICK also playing synthesizer on Nightmare. The single was never released.Coug
MICK went on to play keyboards & synths in ALL THE MADMEN, DECADES BY NIGHT, ELEGANT UNEASE, RED FETISH & THE CONE, and played bass in the first incarnation of THE FRIENDLY CAMPAIGN.
